I took my vinyl skirt off, and replaced it with... nothing. I also reworked/replaced the screen internally, and it's like a whole new toilet. I also waxed the bowl with turtle wax, which worked fine. I will likely rewax it this year with rain-X, but that's low on my totem pole of mods.

I took the skirt off mine today as well, and I put nothing like ThePair. However, we do travel with the tiolet charged, so I will see how much spash back I have and if need be I will either put a skirt on it again, or the vinyl flap like Dave did.
I installed the Lil Stanker fan vent and that should help a lot to keep us odor free. I also polished the bowl with ProtectAll so I can't wait to see the improvement that I get with that.

Larry -
If splash is a problem, some folks simply stretch a piece of clingy Saran wrap over the bowl. Cheap, quick, easy, and effective.

Far be it for me to be indelicate, but...
About 25 years ago I took a sailboat charter certification course up on Lake Superior. Part of the course, which qualified graduates to charter 35' sailboats, dealt with head (marine toilet) use and maintenence. The instuctor suggested that before depositing solids you take about a foot of tissue and place it in the bowl as sort of a carrier. It does make for a more efficient flush.
The good news is that for those of us who use a manual pumping head on boats, the Thetford appears to be a paragon of efficiency and design - at least a TM has never sunk as a result of a malfunctioning Thetford! - camp2canoe
