Swivel wheel for trailer tongue jack....Is this supposed to come with TM?

Okay, so got my new to me TM yesterday. Another thing it didn't have was a wheel for the tongue jack. Is it supposed to have one standard?

On my popup camper this wheel was removable. I used this for moving the trailer around in my garage, fine tuning placement of the camper. I was expecting there to be one on the TrailManor also.

Right now there is a round pad at the base of the tongue. I didn't look close enough to see if it is removable. So my question is, should it have come with a wheel, and if so, what is the diameter of it so I can get a replacement. Anyone have a part number for this?

If I can't what are my options? A quick search showed that the kind you attaché to the frame can only handle 1000# but I'm not sure if that is tongue weight or trailer weight.

See the attached picture of the one that came with my TM in 2010. It is stamped "Atwood 1000 L6 Static Cap". I'm a pretty sure that means 1000 # straight down with no movement. Since it is supporting the tongue only that means it will easily support your approximate 500 # tongue...but be careful when you move it. It has a 2" inside diameter and has a 6" dia. x 2" wide wheel.

Should be included AFAIK. Hazards of buying sight unseen I guess. Question is, will you use it? FWIW, I'll sell you mine for half of whatever they cost new. Mine's been sitting in the garage on a shelf since the day we brought our 2720 home. (Just have to verify it fits.)

If you have a jack wheel, it mounts on the lower end of the jackstem, of course. But there are at least two configurations of this jackstem end, and the wheel that fits one will not fit the other. One has a clip or pin, one has a groove with a bend at the top. We had a discussion about this, perhaps a year ago? Anyone? Maybe this?

And don't you have a power jack? That would be yet a third configuration.

In other words, these things appear not be one size fits all, so be sure you know and get what you need.

Yes I do have the electric jack. I will have to take a closer look at it tonight after work to see how it is configured.

I was hoping to use the wheel jack to fine tune placement in my garage since I doubt I will be able to back it into the exact placement that I need.

On my popup, I would keep the wheel jack on while stored in garage, but would always remove for travel so I could fully crank up the stem so it would not be damaged. At campsite I would put blocks under the stem, and not put the wheel jack back on til I got home.

Yup, plenty of options. I just have no idea how much an original TM wheel costs, but if it's painful, I'd be heading for Harbor Freight or a similar place.

After posting the Harbor Freight item, out of curiosity I went looking for other sources of trailer dollies. One site I usually check is Amazon, because users post reviews of products along with a better selection. Saw several comments about axles bending and wheels pulling off when people used some models of dollies. I do not know which models might be equivalent to the HF unit, and I have not used one of these. I also do not know what types of trailers users were trying to move; they could be trying to move a fifth wheel for all I know.

Just wanted to post a caution that the cheapest dolly may not be the best solution for a relatively heavy TM tongue weight.

I use a cheap model and the rubber wheels try to come off the rim when turning
which is often! I have learned to limit sharp turns but wish my wheels were heavier duty.

A number of us, including me, have the Harbor Freight 600-pound dolly. There is a thread somewhere that talks about it a little - a Search might turn it up.

At any rate, I use it for moving the tongue of my boat trailer over a packed-dirt driveway at my camp. I don't know what the tongue weight is, but two of us can't budge it in a dead lift, so a few hundred pounds at least. It works well, outside of two annoyances.

1. Since I move my boat only twice a year, I find that the dolly tires are always soft when I need it. A quick puff from a compressor brings them back up - but you need to have a compressor handy. A full-size bicycle pump would probably do the job, but I haven't tried it. The ultimate solution would be to put tubes in the tires - about $6 each.

2. If I turn the dolly sharply, the top of the tire on that side hangs up on the underside of the trailer A-frame near the hitch. My quickie fix was to put a stack of washers on the shank of the ball to lift the ball about an inch. But a high-rise ball (maybe 2" of rise, cheap) would be a better solution.

My wheels are semi-pneumatic! Better if I could air up but not worth changing until I pull them off the rim !

Bought the 600# harbor freight dolly

Bought this last night. Looks like it should work well.

Just got my crank handle for tongue jack so I'm off to level the trailer.
