I'm thinking about using rare earth magnets when I replace the curtains in the living / eating area with CORDLESS mini-blinds.....http://www.lowes.com/pd_562048-49091...ini-blinds#img......The blackout curtains will remain in the sleeping area but I want to be able to control the amount of light / privacy in the rest of the unit, more than all open or all closed......(too often that means too bright with no privacy or too dark)

BTW, I use a STRONG magnet to hold the shower head in place and a few smaller ones to hold back the and shower curtain.....They work great!

These ideas all sound intriguing...we will probably wait until we can no longer stand the standard issue curtains, but would love to see pictures when you complete your job.

Are the earth magnets more difficult to find?

Properly called "rare earth magnets", they are easy to find these days. Though there are probably many other sources, one which I have used on many occasions is www.kjmagnetics.com.
