Catalytic propane heater placement

From what I understand, a single Olympian Wave 3 won't be sufficient where outside temperatures will drop to 30°F or so. I'm planning to get a Wave 6 or 8. However, given space limitations in travel trailers, I'm wondering if I'm actually better getting two Wave 3 pointed in opposite directions, or if the Wave 6 would be good enough. I read where one person set up the heater on the stove top and pointed it towards the bathroom wall.

I got the Wave 8, and tried it out for the first time tonight to make sure it works for our next trip. It works really well. Within a half hour the center of the camper came up 5°C. We only need it warm enough to sleep at night. If the battery is good, I may use the camper furnace during the day to keep it above freezing while we're out on the ice field.

I set it up on the counter beside the stove because I know I will want to use the stove top in the morning to make breakfast. I do notice that the floor and ceiling get quite hot. I can keep my hand on it without burning it, so it's maybe about 50-60°C. I could see that constant use over the years of the heater could damage the counter top.

Just received and installed my wave 8 heater. I wanted shut off valve. Was having a problem finding the right hose for the right price. Settled on the most inexpensive option. I bought two 5' hoses that were Char-Broil hoses from Manards. They were 1/2 the price of any other hose in the store. Put a shut off switch in the middle. Unhooked the gas line to the original furnace, unhooked the and taped off the positive wire lead to the furnace in the thermostat and it was off and running. If I ever need the furnace it is a 5 minute job. I am also planning on storing the wave 8 in the storage compartment under the couch. I have measured and without the legs, which take about 2 minutes to put on, It is a great fit. Will make the compartment 2 tiered and put foam in for a smooth ride for my wage 8. I will still be able store a bund of items under the storage that I will be able to get at through the outer door.

It appears as if I may have left my Wave 8 behind at a campsite, and it was scooped by another camper. >

We were in a hurry because I was trying to install the WDH and vacate the site by 11:00 AM, as required. We didn't actually leave until close to noon. As I was arranging things to pack in the truck, I suspect I removed the heater and forgot to put it back. I had e-mailed the manager of the campsite and they said the site was empty.

That was an expensive mistake. I clearly remember taking one last look at the campsite after pulling out to see if I had left anything behind. The Wave 8 cover is black so it doesn't stand out, and I figure that's why I missed it.

I'm not sure I'll be replacing it anytime soon. It was sure nice, but it will be a few years before we can try to get to the Icefield again. The trailer furnace will do for our camping needs for the time being.

Ouch! If it was stored in place by the front bed you will not need to take it out. Really sad that no one turned it in to the office.

If I had room in the trailer at all, I'd have left it there. We had 3 adults and 2 kids in a 2720 SD. Pretty much all storage was being used for stuff!

Thanks for the pics and suggestion. Will see how present system works. At this moment I can move my heater. Also, I have a wave 8 instead of a 6 so wonder if that will work the same way. But I will at least check it out. I just finished putting slides on my drawers so am familiar with that process.

That's a neat idea Ben. I do think my wife and kids would have issues with it sticking in the hallway.

I had thought about making some clips, much like the ones that hang the kitchen cabinet, so I could hang it on a side wall so it is away from people as best as possible. Kinda moot for me for now, ....
