Dexter Axle Model Number????
I called Dexter today asking where I could find the axle model number so I could order parts prior to a complete tear down. They told me the model number was a 9 digit number stamped on the right front axle side. I've cleaned, wire brushed and looked everywhere on the axle but no numbers exist except on the backing plates.
Can someone assist, not sure where to look next. I have a 2005 2720SL and I need bearings, seals and shoes . . .
Thanks!

On my axle, which is on a 2000 2720SL, the model number is on a thin metal plate riveted to the front side of the axle. You can't miss it. Yours may have fallen off.
This is what I order when I do what you're doing....and I don't just replace the shoes. I buy the entire brake assembly, which is literally only $10-$15 more than the shoes, and that gets you a new magnet. A much easier install, too.
Part numbers are off of Easternmarine.com.
1 5331006 10" x 2-1/4" Electric Brake Assy. - Right Hand / 3.5k
2 5331005 10" x 2-1/4" Electric Brake Assy. - Left Hand / 3.5k
3 1590022 Timken® 1-1/16" Bearing Cup & Cone Set
4 1590025 Timken® 1-3/8" Bearing Cup & Cone Set
5 5257018 1" ID Round - TANG Washer
6 5331097 DEXTER 1.72" ID Grease Seal #010-019-00 (Dexter part #)
I always carry an extra pair of seals, bearings, and Tang washers with me in case roadside repairs are necessary at 10pm Sunday night.
Next time I do the brakes I may use the Nev-R-Adjust assemblies.

Also, note that there's a good chance you will have to replace the drums as well. The brake shoe surface can be resurfaced, but the armature surface -- where the magnet rubs against -- cannot. I called lots of machine shops to find out. So if you've never done so, you can count on replacing those too. If you don't, your magnet may wear unevenly, and you may also have decreased braking performance because the magnet is not in full contact with the drum.
I just cleaned/repacked my bearings a few days ago....my least favorite job. It was less unpleasant this time as I tried out my new Lisle bearing packer. No grease gun required, and you force grease into the bearing (from the tapered/smaller end) until it comes out the other end.

Thanks Dave! It also seems that Eastern Marine Trailer Parts Superstore beat Dexters prices by about 15% - good deal . . .

Indeed. They usually have the best prices for me, and they often have sales that discount the brake assemblies by a few bucks. I don't even look anywhere else anymore.
Don't forget that you need 2 of each of those bearing sets. One of each set for each side.

Factory should know your components
The factory records were used to tell me what axle I have. They used the VIN to look it up. Not all axles are Dexter. Mine is a Reliable.

Interesting. I requested a build sheet for mine and never got a response.

Just got off the phone with Trailmanor and I'm very disappointed! I ask them about tracking the VIN to tell me which axle is on my TM and their answer was " Sorry that was the old Trailmanor company and we are the new Trailmanor company. They kept all their records so we have nothing to work with".
WOW, two different companies and they don't talk - I'm shocked!
