Default 8 Year Old Tires!

My wife and I purchased a 2005 2720SL this week and drove 968 miles round trip - finally home!

When we picked up the TM I knew the tires were old so I had already called the local tire dealer and had 3 new tires waiting. When we arrived, the dealer told me we were lucky we didn't try to go home on those tires because they were manufactured the 14th week of 2006!

They looked a little old but not 8 years worth. Anyway we had 3 new GY Marathons mounted, balanced and hit the road. She handled great and no problems at all . . . .

Here's a few pics

Glad you had a good trip Joe. When I picked up our TM last month I traveled about 1650 miles round trip but that included a detour to visit old friends. Had no problems on the trip but 90 miles after I got home the fuel pump went out on my '01 Tahoe. I am so thankful that didn't happen on the way home. I've since added RV coverage to our AAA membership. Only cost an additional $30 per year to our existing membership.

When we bought our camper which was 600 miles away. The seller agreed the tires needed replacing and replaced two 12 year old tires before we arrived and bought the camper. As soon as we got home we replaced the 12 year old brand new looking spare. The seller asked what tire brand was our preference and installed them.

For the most part old tire are going to be an issue for the seller to sell the camper. If they are reasonable seller will work with you.

Safe tires are a good investment considering what's at stake...that said, one can over do, but 8 years no doubt on that.
Glad u made it.

Right before I bought my 07 TM 2619 last fall, I looked at a 01 TM 2720 in Colorado Springs. It had the original tires! The tires were a good representation of the condition and upkeep of the entire TM. It needed major TLC.

I would not say the original tire represents the condition. In Feb of this year when we bought our 03 TM with original tires manufactures in 02. The camper was in very nice condition. How they camped explained all I need to know about the tires. They never camped then more then 75 miles for the sellers house and most of the time it was within 25 miles. I would expect, if I only traveled 25 to maybe 75 miles, I would not have the same concerns about tires and would push my tires.

But as soon as I asked about the tires. The seller offered to put new tires on before we arrived so I would have a safe 600 mile trip home if we bought it.

I just bought a new spare for my year 2000. It was date coded 99 and never been used. It hurt my pocket a little but I know it was the right thing to do.
