Default Land Speed Record towing a caravan/travel trailer

Yesterday I went to an all English car show in the San Fernando Valley. Included in the free promotional stuff that you get at such events was a little magazine commemorating the 100th anniversary of Aston Martin.

As I read through it I spotted one part about unusual Aston Martin facts that said that a race prepared Aston had towed a "Caravan" at 124 mph back in 1980. I searched for more info on the web and learned that this was done in the rain!!

Further searching showed me that people have been challenging and breaking this record for years. The latest record is 144.998 mph! It was set by a supercharged GMC 2500 diesel truck running nitrous oxide and producing 1000 hp.

The trailers involved are real travel trailers about 15' long.

Hmmm. I wonder what you could do towing a TM with its low profile.

Anyone care to try??

Not this child. Here is a link: http://www.autoblog.com/2012/10/31/d...t-141-998-mph/

Enjoy,

Tom

Now we know what an extra 700 or 800hp could do for us. It's good that they didn't try to do this with 14" Marathon tires.

I was thinking the same thing about the tires. It would be amusing to ask my dealer if he has V rated trailer tires.

I recently read an article where a guy used a Cayenne to pull a 28 foot Airstream at 100mph. Toungue weight was nearly 300 lbs over the limit. I hope he doesn't live around me.
