Default Bag Seal Maintenance

Would it be a good idea to use Armorall on the bag seals to keep them from cracking or is that unnecessary?

Armoral has a reputation for damaging tires. I'm not sure how it effects this material. Just keep them clean. A wipe with a rag with silicone on it would probably be better that Armoral but I don't really know.

I think (could be wrong) that those bags are made of a material called "Hypalon".

You might do a search for cleaning and protecting that material. It's a rubber product and it's pretty hardy stuff if that is indeed what it is.

Hi Steppy,

I was told to wash bag seals with warm water and soap then dry and spray with silicone and I keep up the same each quarter to safeguard against rot. So far so good. On a 33/26 it takes all day to do a good cleaning inside and out and the seals are part of it.

Good Luck and Happy Camping

If the bag seal is, indeed, Hypalon, that is what the very best inflatable dinghies are made of. I looked on the net at a site called "allinflatables.com" and they post the warning: NEVER USE STRONG DETERGENTS (ACID, TRICHLORETHYLENE, MINERAL SPIRIT) OR SILICONE-BASED PRODUCTS TO CLEAN YOUR BOAT. West Marine is our go to source for TM maintenance and their website suggests Formula 303 Aerospace Protectant. We've used that on our canoes, kayak and sailboat cushions for years with good results. camp2canoe

Formula 303 is great stiff. I use it on my bag seals, Plastic access doors ( outside shower) as well as the awning and my truck bed cover. Suggest you buy a gallon from somewhere like Camping World during sale and refill smaller spray bottle.
