Roof vent upgrade?
Wasn't sure where to post this... Has anyone upgraded their old, non-powered, roof vent to a powered version? Wondering how difficult it might be...
IIRC, the newer TM's come with a powered vent anyway. Could it be that it uses the same size opening as the old models? I was thinking I could maybe steal power from the lighting circuit up there.
Any advice for me??
Thanks,
Steve

Most roof vent openings are a standard size. You can steal power from a nearby light. If you want to make it neat, you can cover the wire with one of the many self stick wire covers available from big box hardware stores. Check the depth capability of the power fan you are looking at to make sure it will handle the roof thickness.

My '08 2720 Has The Powered Fan, I Have The 2 Manual Vents Over The Dining Table. The Powered One Is On The Front Shell, Door Side Close To The Stove.
I Can Get A Picture / Make Model If You Need It.

Has anyone ever seen a solar powered vent fan that fits inside an existing vent? It would certainly save a little power while camping (the fantastic fan runs about 1.5A), but it also might be useful for ventilation while closed up. It would also solve the wiring problem.

Thanks for all of the ideas! I checked in with the factory today - Ed said that a new Fantastic fan should be a direct replacement, so I picked one up at my local RV store, along with sealant for the install. Hopefully the existing one won't be too hard to remove.
Now a related question: does anyone have a favorite brand / model of vent cover (to allow use of the vent in the rain, etc.) I've seen two or three designs out there...

Depending on the TM model, I suppose, a powered vent in the ceiling of the front shell might not vent anything when the TM is closed, since the fan might be above the roof of the rear shell.

That's definitely the case with our '99 2720.
