Camper shell
Ok, one problem solved, onto the next. We are interested in putting a camper shell on our GMC Sierra but it certainly appears that a traditional door would hit the TM when it was extended. Any suggestions?

We have a Leer cap on our 2003 Ford F150 SuperCrew and the cap window clears our 2619. We have one of the cushioned drawbars which may be somewhat longer than standard. The truck's tailgate will not open 100% when hitched and rests on the trailer jack so we carry a small pad to protect the tailgate if we need to pull something out of the truck bed. If I had to do it again, I'd buy a contractor's type cap with the side opening window but when we bought the truck we had no plans of buying a camper. We also need to carry our canoes forward on the TV so that they clear the TM but this hasn't been a problem even with the 18'6" Minnesota II. Hope this helps. - camp2canoe

We have the Leer cap and the back window clears our 3124ks with or without the wdh being used.

Santa came early!
So, to use the bed slide we obviously will have to disconnect but we're hoping we have the same luck as some of the rest of you that we can open the back window with the TM opened up (longest sentence in the history of the world . . . ) Either way, color us happy! Thanks for the great advice once again!

Some camper shells have side windows that will open, as well as the back. A lot depends on how large the item is that you are trying to take out.

Of course the bed-slide won't slide all the way out but it slides out far enough to be a big help getting stuff out.

So, we found on our big trip that when things fall off the back of the truck bed slide, it is seriously not fun. We had the tote dead center in the back because we knew we wouldn't need it for the first couple of weeks. We had it tied down with bungee cords but it still managed to make trouble a couple of times.
Anyway, we had a 1' by 4' piece of 16 gauge galvanized steel sheeting that we bought to build a frame around the plumbing. Even though they assured me that our bending brake would bend that gauge, we just couldn't make ourselves break it just because some fool told us to. So, we used that piece for this fix and will order another lighter piece to try again with the plumbing.

Just don't try to close the T/G with a 4x8 sheet of drywall in there.
I had to pick up 4 sheets of drywall the other day. They had to sit up on that back ledge to get the T/G closed. Don't try to drive with the T/G open and drywall in the bed.......it's not pretty......don't ask me how I know.....
