Appliance electrical usage - too much?
My sister and i are taking our first trip in our 2005 3124KS on Sunday. We will be running the a/c, frig, and water heater on shore power. Can a microwave be used while all this is operating? Or will we blow something up?

water heater dont add any draw to the power. you will be plugged into a 30 amp circit so you will be fine. you may notice the exessive power draw while running microwave but no biggy

If the Water heater is running on electric. It has to add to the draw.

Which way are you headed Sandy? We will be in Sunshine Key Campground next week!
As for power use, We never have a problem while hooked up to 30 Amp! If on a 15 Amp circuit we have to use one appliance at a time!

Sandy -
The words "blow something up" are pretty dramatic. A lot of non-electrical people use those words, and I'm never sure when they actually mean them, so let me just say it right out. No, you are not dealing with a disaster movie with lots of fake fireworks. Nothing will blow up. The worst that will happen is that the 30-amp circuit breaker will click off - it might be the circuit breaker in your TM, or it might be the circuit breaker on the campground power post. Both are rated 30 amps, so it is a tossup which one will go first. But either way, the breaker is like a light switch - you just click it back on again. Of course if you continue doing what you were doing before, it will click off again, and that can get boring. So turn something off. When you need the microwave, turn off the air conditioner, for example. The refrig doesn't use enough power to enter the equation, and the water heater doesn't run very often (and if you switch it to propane, it won't run on electric at all) so I would expect no problems. And no fireworks.

Yes, they're too much load (at the same time).
The TM fridge is not an issue, because it's basically a 150 watt light bulb (not even 2 Amps). So focus on the the Air Conditiiner, water heater, and microwave together.
The A/C power draw is very large: 1400 watts while running continuously at 95F, and much higher when the compressor actually starts (but that takes only a moment).
The Water heater adds another 1400 amps, but it (fortunately) doesn't have any "start-up" considerations.
Add it up: When running together, they already consume about consume about 23 amps. Another 1100 watts from a microwave and you'd better be switching to the propane water heater -because your running amps are already too high, and the Air Conditioner start-up cycles add demand for even more current. When you switch to propane, there's additional goo dnews: The propane burner/heater has much more power (and faster recovery time) than the electrical element - so just enjoy it's superior performance when you need to use it. (We never use the electrical option - not even in RV parks with high-quality electrical service.)

I would recommend you turn off the AC when your using the microwave. I would suspect its less than 10 minutes per use. Save the headache of looking for the breaker if it pops.

We always run the hot water heater on propane - the folks at The Car Show recommend never using the elec because it can be a draw. We've never had a problem using the air, frig, and microwave all at the same time...even the generator seems to handle it quite well. Of course we have a small microwave. Have blown the breakers a few time while on an extension cord at home though.........
