Water leak under window

Just to preface - I did search the website for threads describing window leaks before I posted this thread - however, I'm not sure I found anything specifically describing what I see, so I'm going to post my situation and see what you folk think...

Last night we had a high winds and heavy rain (weather service had warnings issued, etc.) -- I went out this morning to check the TM, and found that one window in particular had water beneath one window (small amount, not enough to soak anything in any significant fashion).

Strange thing about it - the water appears to have come out of two of the screws securing the lower curtain track. If I had to guess, I would guess either a) some portion of the window seal is bad, or b) the window's drainage mechanism became overwhelmed, allowing water into the wall, which partially or entirely escaped via the curtain track screws.

The TM is frame-level (not fridge-level) front-to-back, although it's not exactly level side-to-side (not far off though).

One other silly question - is there any easy way to tell if a shell is retaining water? I read one horror story from several years ago, and I want to make sure I don't encounter that kind of grief (we bought this unit used, and thus have no warranty to fall back on).

Anyways, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I only mention this because I have been having a really close look at the windows of our trailmanor today . . . a couple of the windows on ours need caulk on the outside bottom/center part of the stationary window. This could easily cause the situation you are describing.

Is it ok to simply caulk (having cleaned first of course) around the outside of the window? I have to admit - part of me wants to pull the window and replace the seal, although that would obviously be much more work...

If you have the situation I am talking about, it would be very obvious. On ours it was on two windows. The spots were probably between 1/8" and 1/4" long. My only concern with caulking was catching a little piece of the slider and I won't be able to open it up to see if that happened until tomorrow. I hear what you are saying about replacing the seal if your issue is more complicated than that.

So Saturday I went ahead and caulked all around the outside of two windows -- last night it rained, and voila! no leaks!

Not entirely happy with the way the caulk turned out, given I'm used to having more time to work with the caulk before it sets up -- but at least the problem's solved... (I used that ProFlex RV caulk -- seems good and sticky, which is what I'd want in this application, but it sets up a bit fast)

Ok - this is off the topic of the post but I have to ask - your sig picture shows a Mercury Milan as a TV - I've seen a few of those around here and they are all V6's - and look really too small to tow a 3124. What are the TV specs and how does it tow?

I'll apologize in advance - the Milan is up there as a bit of a joke, triggered by the myriad discussions and debates surrounding tow vehicles - it's actually a 4-banger, and occasionally has trouble towing it's own weight around, let alone that of a trailer.

And besides - I like it, so I'd never subject it to towing the TM.

I do think I'll keep featuring different TVs though in my signature, just to add a bit of levity to the TV topic - I have in mind for my next featured TV to be the Peel P50 from Top Gear fame...
