Torsion bars maintenance **IMPORTANT**

I want to alert you all to something we should be checking on our TM.

Make sure all the washers and clamps are in place on all torsion bars underneath.

I found a missing clamp and the torsion bar had popped inside the frame. It is still resting on the adjustment bolt so it's doing its job for now. However, while I tried to knock it into place, but I will have to wait until I can raise the rear shell to take the tension off the torsion bar.

You don't want to have a torsion bar pop off and find you have no torsion bar lift at 11:30 pm in the rain, cold, and a tired and grumpy family. Although, two people on either side can probably lift the shell into place, they won't be happy.

The post above was very important (as the title says). But the series of replies immediately went off the original topic (clamps coming off the torsion bar end), into a discussion of a rear shell that wouldn't open. This new discussion was good on its own, contained a lot of good information, and was quite long, so I moved those posts into a new thread.

Thanks, LarryJB. You are dead on. I'm in the process of doing several steps to re-align everything (shells, door, etc.). The first step was to get real level and do a complete check of torsion bar connections: 3 washers missing, 4 clamps were rusted badly, removed and replaced. And moving these old (2005) torsion bar bolts has been true fun - 2 broken.

Everyone who has not done the maintenance Larry is talking about - you should listen to him. Great info.

aw, gee, thanks! Remember to do all these corrections when the TM is open. That's when the tension if low on the torsion bars.
