Default Leak In Rear Of Skylight Vent

While camping this past week in Topping, VA, we had a whopper of a T storm that lasted for a couple hours and poured as hard as it could. I discovered a leak in the rear of the skylight vent and it was dripping near the center ceiling wire cover.

I had a similar occurrence last year with the fan vent

I pulled the vent off the roof as well as the vinyl strips. I was surprised to see that the vinyl strip had not been screwed to the roof as was the fan vent. In looking at the silicone adhesive, it was obvious that a good bond had not been formed allowing water to flow under the vinyl strips.

I was also surprised that the skylight was not screwed into the vinyl strips but was only held on with adhesive sealer.

Is this what you've encountered as well?

At this point I'm looking for some advice as whether I should use screws to secure this vent to the roof as well as a good adhesive like 3M 4200 or just go with the 3M 4200 and no screws.

Thanks!

I went with the 3M4200 between the vinyl & the roof and between the vent frame & the vinyl. The unit is held in place below with corner "hold downs" on the ceiling screwed into the vent itself. This will be a much more robust installation than the factory. I'll give it a water test tomorrow after allowing the 3M4200 a chance to set up.

worked on our leak around the vent, did a total tear down, went with the
3m 5200 between the roof and the vinyl blocks let it sit overnight then re-installed the vent and sealed with 3m 4200,
came a downpour today, all dry inside, tks for the help folks
