Thanks to those who shared the knowledge that turn-off switches (to prevent battery drain) must be left on when the TM is being towed (in order for the brakes to work). For that to happen easily, the switch should be accessible when the TM is closed. I chose to re-locate my previously installed switch from inside the battery compartment (located at the rear of my TM) to inside the bumper storage area. This area is protected from road debris and somewhat protected from the weather.
One problem that I had was that the previous wiring colors such as red/black for positive and white for negative/return/neutral were pieced together from whatever was available – as seen in my attached pictures, I still need to clean this up before declaring the job “done” but for now, the circuit appears to work as planned. I also have one capped connection that I want to go back and shrink wrap when I can get some more butt connectors.
I used 10 gauge wires to the switch and back to the bus bar on the battery box. The switch is a Blue Sea Systems 6006 m-Series (mini) Battery Switch Single Circuit ON/OFF and is set in line with the Positive terminal of my two 6v batteries that are set in series.
I took the cable into the shore power storage and from there into the sewer pipe storage area.
DO you have your battery tied down?, or bolted? How?
I have two 6v batteries in one battery box that is held in place by a long screw that goes into the floor at an angle next to the front corner. The head of the screw comes tight to the battery box. Although it seems pretty secure, I also have cut a piece of shelving (1x10) that is wedged on the floor between the box and the far side wall of the storage compartment.
Looks like a good way to do it. My batteries are in the rear storage compartment. BTW, do you have your batteries vented to the outside, or is it not necessary for your type of battery?
I ran new 8 GA battery wires from the converter following the old white and black wires, the + goes to the red marine Mini Switch mounted under the floor near the front right corner of the TM. The switched wire goes back thru the split loom conduit and up thru a hole in the floor to the batteries.
