Default Myre - Big Island State Park

Hi!

We have stayed at this campground 3 times now, the latest on our 19 day trip "Out West" to the Rockies going and coming. It's a 4-5 hour drive from home in central WI, so it's good for a departure day when there are many last minute things to do. We also stayed here last Fall when heading "Out West".

The pictures shown below are from our April 30, 2004 stay at the campground. We heard owls hooting at night, just like at home!

The state park is located near the I-35 and I-90 interchange, but far enough off the road to not hear road noise. There were a few trains that went through nearby, but not really a bother.

This state park has 2 areas with 30 amp electric hookups as well as non electric sites. Water is available in threaded spigots nearby so a long hose could be used to replenish the fresh water tank, if desired. There is a central dump station. Since we use this campground only for one night stays, this works out well for us.

Here is a link to their website http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_par...and/index.html
and click on camping and lodging for more info. The cost for one night was $25 including the $7 daily entrance fee.

They also have an online reservation site, which is wise for summer weekends.

We prefer state parks for their spaciousness when we are traveling. They often have electric hookups, so that helps a lot.

Very nice! Totally agree on the appeal of the spaciousness and separation between campsites...IMHO, a huge advantage that most state park and national forest campgounds over typically jammed together full hookups commercial "parks". And the electric hookups in a lot of state parks are very nice...particularly in regions with lots of shady campsites (where solar panels don't work well) or where its so hot/muggy that AC is highly desireable.
