7,000 Mile Trip
Hello TM people. I recently returned from a summer trip from St. Augustine, Florida up to the Maritimes in Canada. It was my real trip in the New to Me TM 2010 2720 SL. Others have done far more ambitious trips and have far more experience than me, but I have found the Forum so useful that I wanted to give back in some small way.
I'll be covering tires, solar panels, shell alignment, door problems, carrying bicycles, wifi booster, outside shower and storage. It will be a slow process, but I'll try to be organized about it and put each subject in its most appropriate section of the the forum. Each post will be 7,000 Mile Trip (Subject) The first one will be about tires so you can find it in the tires section under, you guessed it, 7,000 Mile Trip -Tires
Hope someone may find this helpful.
Paul

Very helpful Paul with your tire review; I am looking forward to your experience with the shell alignment and door issues.
We recently came back from a short 4 day trip and I found the door side center latch would no longer latch for some reason. Because of this, two corner latches broke, so I made a call(s) to TM. Finally after about 2 days of calling I reached Sonya, and she took my order and I received it within a few days of ordering: very encouraging to get a human at Trailmanor!

Funny, I was just referring to the drop in towing capacity for the last decade of Crown Vics/Grand Marquis. Did the 2005 still have the higher towing capacity? I thought it dropped to just a couple of thousand pounds when they went to the Watts linkage. They're great cars, my '92 is still running fine at almost 400km.
Anyway, I don't to hijack the thread for its original theme.

re:7000trip
our 2005 merc gr mar is rated around 1500 lbs. which is ridiculous. the car performed flawlessly for over 7000 miles.the car must be equipped with a very good brake controller,w/d hitch and be well maintained.didn't need air shocks, radiator cooler, etc. never exceeded 63mph or used overdrive.

Nothing personal... But you're pulling a TM with vehicle that is only rated to pull 1500lbs? Don't call your insurance company when you have an accident as they and the police will point you in the direction of negligence. They don't make a TM that weighs in less than 3500 lbs. So your saying that you're comfortable towing in excess of twice the safe and factory recommended limit?
That's incredibly selfish... That is if I understand you correctly.

The 1996 Grand Marquis is rated to tow 6000 lbs. Very little changed on the Grand Marquis up to 2013, the last year of the vehicle. A lot of people say it's the Watts linkage that reduced the rating. Other than that, it's the same frame (last BOF sedan), engine, transmission, etc. The Grand Marquis is probably more capable than some of the other vehicles used here.
