Do you people look twice at your TM??

HI everyone we finally got our tm home and went camping for 3 days. IT WAS GREAT, everything worked great. We stayed at a local state park in Wisconsin, it was quite amusing to sit in the camper and watch people walk by and look not once but twice at the camper when they walked by. ??? It would be interesting to have hidden mics to see what people are saying about the TM. We really like ours and so do all our friends. Some are even talking about buying one. Does anybody else have these experiences while camping? ???

Happens all the time. And you'll also get to watch them trying to figure out how it opens and closes...some think it works like a HiLo, others correctly guess that the arms under the top shell have something to do with it (you'll see them moving their arms around trying to explain things to others). And I've had several knock on my door and outright ask "how does this thing work?"

When you take a TM into a campground, be prepared to get lots of attention.

HiLo is basicly one box set on top of a smaller lower box, you just push a button and it moves slowly up. The problem is they are heavy, even their light models. and the smaller units do not have full time beds.

They are also costly. The ones we look at more so than TM.

Owning a TM is definitely a good way to meet fellow campers. Everyone seems to be intrigued about them, and most have never seen one before. We have had some very nice conversations with folks who just stopped by to ask about our camper.

We are going for our first trip this weekend, to a large RV resort in Missouri. It will be interesting to see what kind of looks, questions, etc. we get. I'll let y'all know if anything interesting happens. Y'all--yep, I'm from the South! ;D

We enjoy having a "conversation piece" because many people who might just walk by our site, stop and ask us about it. We meet more people this way and keep brochures in the magazine rack to give them. If we are all set up, I usually invite them to look inside and everyone is always shocked at how much space we have. Nobody expects to see a full bathroom! We even have had people ask us about it in parking areas or rest areas. Never a dull moment.

I've gotten so I don't notice the people looking at our unit while we're setting it up, but they do walk by and slow their pace trying to figure out how it operates. We've found that having brochures is a big help, since some can't quite get the idea of how the shells swing, and usually when they come by, I'm not in a position to put one shell down so they can watch.

It is a lot of fun to watch the puzzled looks on peoples' faces....

I love the strange looks when people see the TM on the road. From the side, they see these windows that must look like they are for very, very short people. I saw a guy in a pickup cross the center line then briefly run off the road while looking back at my TM on a road in Yellowstone. I was looking in my rear view mirror and saw his head stuck out of the window. When driving slowly, watch for the gawkers. It's a blast!

Yep, we usually have a audience when we open and close. When we camp with our group, the "regulars" will forewarn the new folks and when we get to the CG, they will usually introduce themselves and say "I heard about this trailer, I can't wait to see how it opens". Same holds true for closing it as well, people will ask us to let them know when we will be closing it so they can watch. My favorite is when we are sitting outside and watch people walk by and try to explain to each other how it works....someone will usually say "all they do is push a button and it opens up"...this willl invariably get a smile from me. Occassionally they will ask to confirm, but usually they will stand off a ways and point and discuss before moving on.
I get several great looks and reactions on the road as well, and I can usually see someone trying to explain (with hand motions) how it opens up.
I too will offer to show the interior if someone expresses any interest, and have had people say that they saw the TM on the HGTV 2003 RV Show and couldn't wait to see one "in person". I love the TrailManor!!
