Default 2002 Ody and 1998 3023 TM (first trip)

Spent 10 days on a trip from San Diego to Coos Bay Oregon.  Went up the 5 to the 42 to Coos Bay on the way up and took 101 to San Fran. then over to 5 on the way back.  My 2002 Odyssey with a WD hitch did a very good job towing my 1998 TM 3023.  On flat roads a went 67 mph (1800 rpm) and up hill I went aroung 50-60 mph (keeping below 4000 rpm).  I took the chairs out of my TM and used folding chairs to try and keep the weight down.  My wife and two kids (500 lbs) and about 150 pounds of junk were in the Odyssey.  I think we had less than 200 lbs in the TM.  16 mpg for the trip.  I guess I should weigh my TM one of these days.  I do have a 100,000 mile warranty on my 2002 Odyssey in case I over do it.  I did spot a TM on the 210 in LA they were parked on the side of the road getting a ticket.  I guess I was lucky I didn't get one since was going 67 mph all the way up the 5 fwy.

FYI - Sunset Bay in Oregon was a great place to camp.

2619er we did stop in Sacremento to visit family and then stopped at Walmart in Yureka.  It took me 17 hours total from San Diego to Coos Bay.  I would recommend staying overnight somewhere above Sacramento.  Travel on the 5 was easy compared to the trip home through the Redwoods on 101.  I will not do that drive again.  Up and Down curved roads for 6 hours is not fun when towing.

Grayghost the highest elevation was I think around 4800 feet.  The five is great for towing.  The Odyssey did not any problems with the heat and the heat kept our pit stops nice in short because the family wanted to get back in the AC ASAP.

With the TM we found that is better to get to your destinations ASAP and stay several days then to make several stops and have to set up camp everyday.

Later David
