Default electric water heater

I'm at a bluegrass festival in California. Another TM parked near me is a 2001 model 2720. The new owner came over and asked me about her water heater. I suggested she use the electric heater rather than propane. When I opened her outside door to the water heater, I couldn't find the rocker switch than I have on my water heater.

Question: Does that model not have an electric heating option?

My 2000 2720SL does not have an electric element in the water heater. I don't think that became standard in any of the models until a few years afterwards. After that, my understanding is that all TMs have the electric option.

That could be right - things were changing a lot in those years. My early 2002 did have a dual-heat unit. The way to tell for sure is to read the model number off the unit. The model number in mine was SW6DE, where S=Suburban, W=water heater, 6=6 gallon capacity, D=direct (electronic) spark ignition of propane, and E=electric heating element installed. If her model number is lacking the "E", it probably means propane-only. It might also be lacking the "D", meaning the propane burner was match-lit and had a standing pilot light.

Of course, you could also check the circuit breaker box and see if there is a breaker for the water heater.

It is also possible that the water heater might have been replaced at one time. I cannot imagine that a water tank with an electric element would come without a switch to turn off the a/c since that is a great way to durn out the element...

My 2001 3326 has the gas only water heater in it and it looks original to the unit.
