Front and rear Awnings won't stay up
The little butterfly nuts or thumscrews will not tighten to hold my awings up. Is there a way to repair or replace them. My local dealer offered to replace the whole mechanism but that is very expensive.
The unit is a 2005 2720SL we have had for a year.

Will the butterfly nuts come off? If so, you might add a couple of washers. Sounds like the bolts are partially stripped and this might allow the nuts to catch some good threads.

To clarify _ the bolts turn when they should be welded in place. The butterfly bolts tighten so far then the bolt spins in place.

Aren't those bolts keyed into the slide, I'm away from my TM and can't look right. BTW those covers are called Rock Guards not awnings.

This happened on our 2002 3023. I unscrewed the arms from the camper shell and pulled them apart. I then used pliers to get the screws and wingnuts apart. I then replaced the screws, washers and wingnuts with stainless steel. Be sure to put a dolup of caulk at the end of the screws so the wingnuts don't vibrate off.
BTW. The screws are not welded. they are in by friction.
Hope this work for you.

I have had (and still do sometimes) the same problem with my rock guards. The solution that worked for me is to WD 40 the threads of the thumbscrews really good, and then I apply a little sideways pressure on the screw while tightening to put the back side in a bind. I still have to reWD-40 the threads every once in a while to maintain the slick threads.

I don't think you can see that post because you are not a site sponsor. It's cheap -- only $12/year, and well worth it to access the huge amount of content there. That's where most of the discussions are.
