Proper wiring of solar and inverter to clipper monitor.
I hooked up my 400 watt inverter today and my clipper monitor is not showing any load when it is in use. I hooked it up directly to the battery as per instillation instructions for the inverter. Solar panels and inverters are not covered in the written directions for installing the clipper monitor but a diagram illustrating instillation shows loads and chargers in going to the shunt. So now I am thinking the negative wires from both my solar panel and the inverter should be going to the shunt. Does anyone know if this is correct? Could any harm come from trying it?

The shunt attaches to the battery, nothing else. Everything else -- converters, solar panels, inverters, and other loads all attach to the shunt.
Unlesss the current crosses the shunt, the meter won't see it.
You can check the rating for the shunt to make sure you are not overloading it but those things can usually take a lot of current. I don't think a 300 watt inverter wil harm it.

Thanks for the information. That is what I suspected after the readings I was getting. I just didn't want to switch the wires and find out I shorted something out. The clipper instillation instructions don't directly address having a soar panel or inverter. The solar controller and inverter instillation directions don't take in to account you might have a battery controller as they both say to connect directly to the battery.

These Trimetric instructions may not be exactly for your Clipper, but the concepts are diagrammed well.
I looked at the Clipper, but went with the Trimetric after much research.
Hope it works out.

Switched the wires and the monitor is now working properly. Thanks
