My First Blowout

Hey All - Well after 3 years of reading these forums it's finally my turn! Blew out driver's side. I still had Factory Goodyear tires. I was going to replace them this fall - figured 3 years was enough for them.

As far as I can tell we have no damage underneath but I will investigate further when I have some time. Sitting on the highway in 106 degrees wasn't very fun. Called Good Sam, they put on the spare, and I was on my way again in an hour 15 mins! Very nice CA Hwy Patrolman kept the nuts from hitting us. I was impressed that I had no sway or other motion from the trailmanor. I was going about 57, CA speed limit is 55.

So now I need to read up on the current advice on the best tires and get them ordered. This was the last trip unitl September so I have some time.

Whatever brand you get, my advice is 15" with metal stems. Period and end of discussion!

I'll bet it wasn't. We were at about 90 degrees on our first one; you have my sympathies.

We didn't have Good Sam yet at that point, we changed it ourselves. I didn't realize that I had grease all over my face until we went into a fast food place (which luckily happened to be next to a tire store) and I went into the bathroom to wash my hands. LOL!
