Yes we did do it ourselves. There really is not much sewing to recover the couch. The sewing is on the skirt and the new pillows, corners of the seat cushion. It comes apart very easily and you can use the material that you take off as a pattern. Almost all of the material is stapled to the wooden frame. We used an electric staple gun with 1/4" staples.
We found a wicker chair at Lowes that we going to replace the chair that was in it. We thought about redoing the chair, but it just wasn't very comfortable.
If you just wanted a slip cover probably more work, because you would not have a pattern unless you made one.

Wow you did a great job. was the sofa difficult to remove to do the job?
