Default Refridgerator fan on when running on propane?

Hi All,

We are about to venture out on our first electric free camping trip so I am in the process of testing the DC and Propane functions in our 2007 2720. Obviously we need to conserve battery power so I am wondering if it is necessary to have the fridge vent fan on when running the fridge on propane. I have only had the fridge running for about an hour now but I noticed that the space above the fridge is getting a bit warm.

Thanks!

Scott

With the TM setup and the fridge on propane, I personally would only ever run the fan when you are in hot temps, like 90+. Just keep an eye on the temp in the fridge. If it's not staying cool and you have the temp control on max, turn on the fan.

The fan consumes about as much power as one incandescent light, so if you are running it all the time, that is a fair amount of power, especially if you have a "regular" sized battery.

You do not need to run the fridge vent fan if the TM is open. If it is a very hot day, it helps the cooling, but should not be necessary now. You do need to run it when the TM is closed as it is the only way the heat can exit. If it did not get warm in the space above the fridge, it would not work.

While in the Florida Keys I saw several campers with sun shades over the fridge vents to keep the sun off. A few also took off the vent covers but I don't like that if there is a remote possibility that someone (a child) might reach in and burn themselves or trash blow in.

I use the fridge an when it is over 85 and the back of the fridge is in full sun. If it is in the shade then I don't worry about it.

I also have a pair of group 24 batteries. If you only have a single battery then it might be a problem.
