Default Made it to Kansas

Made it alright but not without shredding a new Maxxis 300 miles into the trip. Wow what a pain changing tires on the shoulder of the road. Lucky it was the driverside tire. Fire ants galore on the other side. Was driving 65 just happen to look in my mirror and seen it shedding rubber then the smoke. Finished the trip running 55 mph.

Mike -

Fourteen inch tires or 15 inch? Pressure checked? Speed for most of your travel?

I've been in your position many times, and I sympathize.

Same here, last month. As Bill asked, please provide some details, because I was about ready to buy Maxxis....

Yes, more details please. Very interested. I believe this is the first reported Maxxis failure on this board.

I'm not sure we can always blame it on the tire. I know several times through out the years. I have check the tire before traveling and down the road when I stop, I could see I have a low tire. When I replace it, I see some road trash in the tire. If it had gone flat within a 1/2 mile or so it would have been shredded.

The times I shredded tires, the only way I knew the tire was flat was looking in the mirror and seeing some trash, things just did not look right or another driver let me know I had an issue.

So I wonder, when I shred a tire, if it fist did not go flat and then progressed to being shredded or was it a defect with the tire?? Now I have had the case where I lost the thread and it was still holding the pressure that I started with or I have had the big pop which you hear it when it go's.

Once you are on the side of the road with a shredded tire there is almost no way to tell what was cause. Just food for thought.
