Above the Stove Cabinet

I finally got tired of the countertop clutter, and decided to make a cabinet that could be placed above the stove. We use it for small items that used to take up limited countertop space (spices, napkins, dog treats, etc). I know the factory offers a similar type cabinet as an option. I had one set of mounting brackets left over from a prior TM job, and surprisingly I was able to find them

The cabinet looks great . . . nice project. What is the approximate dry weight? Your piece looks to be taller than the OEM cabinet offered by the factory. I hope you post a few photos of the cabinet in place the next time your unit is set up.

Not sure how much cabinet actually weighs - but it should weigh less than the 'over the sink' cabinet that came with the TM, since it's so small. In trying to make cabinet as light as possible, I used 1/2" MDF instead of 3/4" stock that I'd typically use for something like this. I wasn't sure of size cabinet offered by the factory, so I just 'eyeballed' how much space was available above the stove. I'll take some pix of the cabinet in place, next time.

If you used MDF, the hinges probably make up quite a bit of the total weight! Very nice and professionally done job. Those of us with no woodworking skill or talent are in awe of those who can make something really nice like this. Well done!!!

I have the cabinet for over the front bed but I never use it. I thought that if I ever add a micro, I would use the brackets to mount it above the stove. Target has a really light 750W micro for about $60. We just never seem to need a micro and hardly use the one at home.
