My tow "rig" and current trailer

I have this R-Pod that I like but it is way too high behind my car and drags badly above 60 mph. I'm looking at getting a 2720 SL to lower the profile significantly. I actually prefer the older models with the A/C in the sidewall for further height reduction.

Plans are to participate in car shows around the country and do a Route 66 tour in the next few years. I'm registered for the Goodguys Nationals in Nashville, TN in May.

Are you sure your drag is not being caused by the lack of a hood over your engine?

How much does your pod weigh? A 2720 could be around 3,500 lbs, loaded for travel. That may offset the reduction in drag, if your pod is significantly lighter. You would have much more room in a TM than a pod, that's for sure.

I wasn't done with all the mods to the car when I took that pic. I had the whole front clip off and the engine/trans out for a trans swap to 200r4. Changed the manual rack to power, swapped the springs for coil-overs and added Vintage A/C.

Hood didn't make much difference with 350 hp... New trans wanted to get hot over 60. The PO went cheap on the aluminum rad and it didn't have an integral trans cooler. The fan cooled auxiliary wasn't cutting it. I have a spankin' new aluminum rad with trans cooler waiting to go in, if the weather ever gets above zero for more than a couple days...

R-Pod is light, around 1700#. The extra weight of the 2720 is a bit of a concern as I think it will weigh the same or slightly more than the car. I pulled the trailer to Deadwood SD last fall with my 2000 K1500 and it was like a sail behind that too. 9-10 mpg...not happy with it. I love the self contained style, but it needs to be more aerodynamic and not having to swap the table to a bed every day would be nice...

LovetoCamp, I just noticed where you are. I was in Watkins last Friday and picked up a Corvair to restore. Loved the 55 degrees and was wishing I could stay.

We looked at the R-pod before going with the TM. The TM has a lot more room and didn't change mpg when we switched from a Coleman Mesa pup. If you put the "pod" on the scales I bet its heavier then 1700# or mesa was in the 2400# range. Our TM is 3680# with camping supplies. The mesa had almost the same amount of supplies when weighed.
